In case you think I am all talk and no substance, I put up a website a couple of weeks ago using the software: “Write Freely.” I don’t just put up websites for my health I put them up for purpose and the purpose of this website needs to be explained.

I’ve been building websites for several years always at the mercy of people who put up tutorials then go away and leave them to die a slow death as progress occurs and their tutorials rot. After about five years of this I got a bit miffed at doing the work as prescribed by these tutorials and finding, after an hour or two of concerted effort, that they were so out of date that, once again, I had wasted time on something that was never going to work.

Software which is properly maintained always needs to have its tutorials updated as code changes. Few do this so I did. I knew better than to trust tutorials and I did a lot of digging both to be sure of accuracy and to throw out lines of code which did not work any longer. I am not well enough educated in coding to know exactly what I am doing so I made darned sure to try them out and to be certain they work. That is a lot of editing, researching, putting two and two together and seeing if those equaled four, and hours of work.

I spent a few hours yesterday and put up tow tutorials there. One for Write Freely and one for a social software called Soapbox. These are here and, here, is a Write Freely instance and the tutorial to build yours and also has a “Soapbox” tutorial, as of yesterday evening.

If you like it let me know*. I have used both of these and the Soapbox instance put up using my tutorial (it to was flawless) is here. As I always state when using a tutorial, it is the text that guides the commands, pay attention to both.
