Several months ago I got interested in what is a fairly new blogging platform. What I was looking for was one not weighted down with bloat. (Extraneous doo-dads that make it simple to use but make it fat and slow to work) No chide on WordPress but that is one bloated program. I was looking for something challenging that required some thought to make all aspects of publishing work together.
Of course, with thin also comes a lack of FBC: “Function By Clicking.” That is gotten over by using different coding languages to make everything work rather than a top heavy word processor built in. I found that in Writefreely but you also need a server, got that, and an education by seat of the pants struggle to put a website like that together.
I spent a few months trying out varying methods of putting a WriteFreely (I’ll use WF from here on) website together. All of these were found on the internet and all of these had problems I found only after spending a half hour entering code and achieving a dead end.
So, I took it upon myself to garner what code worked, organize it, and, after hours of puzzling out the correct sequence of commands, put together a tutorial that when I used it worked like a charm. I have published that tutorial on a WF website for any who would love to have a bare bones experience blogging their hearts out. You must be acquainted with Markdown to edit text. It sounds difficult but is actually quite easy once you see how it works. It is also fun to do and that is half any battle. That tutorial is HERE, and you are more than welcome to give it a go! It’s completely free, no details of your life will be pilfered and nothing but joy after frustration will come of using my tutorial. Go for it!
